My family recently set up our beef cattle operation for managed intensive grazing. We've always grazed our cattle seasonally, but realized the immense benefits of a rotational approach. My biggest concern and question for you is how to introduce them to fresh pasture coming off winter feeding. We feed mostly good dry hay with corn silage supplement. We have 120acres of pasture fenced. Our old approach was to put our animals out before the grass was prime. We would keep outfeeding until other areas were ready and ease them into deep pasture. This always seemed to work but seems to be a waste of pasture considering out short growing season. Northern Wisconsin! With our new smaller paddock sizes we realize we won't be able to operate in that manner. In your opinion, what is the best way to introduce cattle to pasture every spring. Thank you for any help on this matter.

Dear Anibal, I was at the class in Calif. this winter and enjoyed your presentation very much, Thank-you. I am interested in finishing cattle on grass but just want to do it for the commodity market. I would like to buy heavy heifers it spring that I could finish in 60 to 120 days. I am sure that the run of the mill cattle without grass genetics would be harder to finish. However given the price of gain at the feedlots do you think I could do it with your kind of a forage chain. If I could would they finsh with yellow or white fat. Is there anyone doing this in the US you know of.
